OurCrown launches in Africa at the Nigerian Dental Conference

The Nigerian Dental Conference (NDC) is a yearly event set up to promote knowledge, innovation, and collaboration within African dentistry. As dental professionals from across the nation and beyond gather to share insights and learn from one another, it becomes a platform for significant advancements in oral healthcare.

This year's NDC offered a diverse array of lectures, workshops, and interactive sessions. Renowned experts presented their research findings, shared clinical experiences, and shed light on emerging trends in dentistry. Attendees had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, refine their skills, and forge meaningful connections with peers and mentors alike.

One of the highlights of this year's Nigerian Dental Conference was the launch of OurCrown in Africa, a revolutionary dental technology set to redefine the field of restorative dentistry worldwide. OurCrown was co-founded by Robin Prior and Jordan Gilmour. It was formally launched at the Scottish Dental Show in May this year and since then Robin and Jordan have been engaging with practice owners and dental groups in Scotland, the UK, and internationally. OurCrown is a product of extensive research and innovation and introduces a new era of precision and efficiency in creating dental products such crowns, bridges, dentures, aligners, splints, and veneers.

OurCrown is service based and allows dentists to go from scan to install in under an hour. Its appeal to dentists lies in its no set-up costs and its service costing less than half of what they currently pay for dental products.

The process consists of Dentists prepping and scanning the patient in their practice and uploading a digital scan through the OurCrown software to a dedicated design team provided by OurCrown.  The dentist receives the professional designed crown back to the practice within thirty minutes, they then print the crown in-house and install within the patient’s mouth after washing and curing the product. The whole process takes around an hour.

The entire process was presented at the NDA Lagos event focusing on harnessing the power of computer-aided design and manufacturing with OurCrown streamlining the entire process of crafting dental restorations.

The technology developed and created by OurCrown combines cutting-edge digital imaging, sophisticated software, and state-of-the-art fabrication techniques to create customised dental solutions with unparalleled accuracy. This at a lower cost that dentists across the world are currently paying. It also future proves practices as new technology emerges, by allowing the dentist to upgrade the systems in the future as new technology continues to provide improvements in speed costs and the ability to adapt the service to the personal needs of the patient.

Jordan stated, ‘Patients have less time than there have ever had, and this is felt across the whole industry, OurCrown provides a world’s first, “A Crown in Hour” that doesn’t require dentists to invest huge sums of money in equipment that will be out of date in two years!’

The introduction of OurCrown sparked engaging discussions among attendees, reflecting on the transformative potential it holds for dental practices and patient care. Dentists and dental technicians expressed enthusiasm about integrating this cutting-edge solution into their workflows, envisioning a future where dental restorations are not only highly functional but also remarkably lifelike.

Dr Oluwole Olusanya the Chairman Nigerian Dental Association Lagos State Chapter stated "OurCrown , presented at the recently held 56th Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Dental Association held in Lagos, Nigeria. It was a refreshing experience. All our participants were excited about the prospect of working with them and the various opportunities that we intend to explore. In Robin and Jordan, Abergower have a unique combination, dedicated to providing the World with first class, top notch, cutting edge technology. We look forward to working with them”

Attending the Nigerian Dental Conference and being part of the unveiling of OurCrown in Africa was an exhilarating experience that underscored the ever-evolving nature of dentistry and technology. The conference offered a platform for learning, sharing, and networking, while the launch of OurCrown signaled a new chapter in restorative dentistry in Africa. As dental professionals continue to embrace innovation and push the boundaries of what is possible, the convergence of knowledge and technology is shaping a brighter future for oral healthcare in Nigerian and beyond.
